About me
Mr. J. Maxie Hemmans is a Curtiss Middle School retired principal who completed his BS degree, in mathematics, at Morris Brown College ‘65 (HBCU) in Atlanta, GA on an athletic scholarship and earned his master’s degree at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. Mr. Hemmans began teaching mathematics and coaching football in Waycross, GA, his hometown, at his segregated high school, Center High School. He worked in the field of education from 1965 to 2005 where he loved teaching mathematics, coaching football and being elected UTLA Representative at Dorsey High School, serving as an administrator for continuation Schools, middle and high schools, and being a COBA President. After he retired, he served as an interim administrator from 2006 to 2019 in Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, Continuation Schools, Community Day Schools (CDC), and High Schools.
Mr. Hemmans enjoys serving as the current COBA Emeriti Chairman/Liaison helping COBA meet its goals and objectives. He enjoys spending more time with his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is married to the love of his life Eve, for 60 years, who graduated from Clark College ‘66 (HBCU) in Atlanta, GA.
